Marudi Fried Koey Tiaw, Miri

Was in Miri on 23 - 25 Dec 2011 for a dear friend's wedding.

She introduced us that a Must-Try in Miri is this Marudi Fried Koey Tiaw. Marudi is actually a name of a place in Sarawak. If I remembered correctly, she told us that before we have flights to Mulu, people used to drive and cross the river to get to Mulu, and Marudi is a small town where they stop by for rest and meals.

Marudi Fried Koey Tiaw is slightly thicker and softer than the normal Koey Tiaw.

This is really good and we went to the same shop twice. I can't remember the name of the shop, it is near by to Imperial Hotel, corner shop and it also has a famous roasted duck stall.

Christmas Tree Lighting @ Sutera Magellan Resort

Invited @meitzeu to tag along with me to the Christmas Lighting Ceremony at Sutera Magellan Resort.

The Guest of Honour of the event is Datuk Yee Moh Chai and wife who will light up the tree.

The event was great with lots of good food, wine and the angelic voices of the children from Desa Pukak Hostel.

Pity that we couldn't stay for dinner (I saw roast turkey!) after the tree was lighted up as I have another dinner gathering.

Poh Chi Lam @ Taipan Inanam, KK

This is a post which would make @meitzeu jealous.

She has been telling us that she read a lot of good review on Poh Chi Lam. I did tried my best to bring her, but the first time we went, the restaurant is still closed.

But I managed to go there last week, so I tried the Dim Sum and the Roasted Duck noodle.

The duck and noodle was really good ala Hong Kong Style. So good that I forgot taking picture of the noodle.

Dim sum was surprisingly good also. Heard from the boss said the Dim Sum Chef worked at Nexus Karambunai Resort previously. No wonder the presentation and taste were good.

Love that every ingredient - the prawn and pork is fresh. The custard egg york buns are really good too! Crispy on the outside and piping hot and creamy on the inside.

I think @meitzeu will start bugging me again to bring her there soon after this post.

Will post more when we go there.

Kalamatas Resto'Ba, KK

Some friends recommended that I should go to this restaurant as they serve good food, most importantly, they serve good food with reasonable price.

So when another friend suggested the same restaurant when we are thinking where to have dinner, I know I "Have To" GO! So off we went.

It is located at Api Api Centre (behind Marina Court Condo, a few shops away from 7 eleven).

As you all may have noticed, I LOVE carbo! Buns, breads, pizzas, cakes, noodles, potatoes etc.

So my choice : Mushroom Burger with cheese and Spaghetti + Mushroom Soup. My friend suggested us to change the French Fries to Mashed Potato. So I agreed.

No regret of coming to this Restaurant. Burger was Awesome with capital "A"! 200g of homemade Beef Patty, the taste was really good. Love the Mashed Potato! Mushroom soup is nice too, as any mushroom soup not from the "can" is nice for me. The spaghetti is so-so though but the Mushroom burger and Mashed potato really made us happy!

It opens from 11am - 5am daily. YES. 5am. So this is a good place to go when you need supper too.

North Borneo Railway Steam Train, KK

Went onto the North Borneo Railway Steam Train for the 1st time.

The train only operates on every Wednesday and Saturday. It is priced at RM250 per person (without land transfer to and from the Tanjung Aru Railway Station unless you are staying at Sutera Pacific Hotel or Sutera Magellan Resort, you will have complimentary return transfer to the Railway Station)

Although the 1st impression was that the cost is really expensive to go up the train for few hours ride. But once we have experience it, we realised it is value for money, of course, it also depends how much you appreciate what North Borneo Railway has to offer.

The experience of an unforgettable journey down the memory lane with the steam train, sights, sounds and smell (smoke) is just not to be missed. Some of you especially the locals might prefer to go on the train without a Tour guide, but if you are a tourists and wish to understand better on the history of North Borneo Railway and what can be found in the 2 small town that we stopped at, I highly recommend hiring a knowledgeable tour guide / engaging a travel agency for this tour.

Golden Dew Bistro @ Ming Garden Hotel & Residences, KK

Ming Garden Hotel & Residences has officially open yesterday.

So I went for dinner at the Hotel with one of my "Makan Gang" friend.

The food presentation is very good, but we are not so satisfied with the taste. These were what we ordered :

Oxtail Soup - Love how generous they are with the herbs, taste good but too salty for us. If less salty, it will be perfect.

Nasi Lemak - Love the rice, very aromatic. (I only tried the rice). But my friend said it was just okay.

The Ming's Burger - I ordered beef. It looked really impressive when it was served. However, the beef patty and pineapple was tasteless.

Service was really good though. I have asked for some Mayonnaise, but they gave me a lot, feel kinda wasted when I didn't managed to finish it.

Overall feel that the bistro serves better Malay cuisine than the Western.

Will be back to try the Lamb sausages and dessert. *** I was really sad when the waiter told me they are out of Lamb sausages. I really wanted to try it, never had that before.

Christmas Lighting at Bella Italia Restaurant, KK

Was invited to the Christmas Lighting at Bella Italia on 29 November.

It was a simple but warmth little dinner, food was good as Chef Leo wanted to introduce some of the food which will be served during the All you can Eat Christmas Buffet @ RM65 per person.

There are also Christmas Set Meal To-Go for 4 - 6 persons. You can choose from Turkey set / Beef Wellington set / Roast Lamb Leg set and many more.

We are planning to order 1 back home on the 22 Dec, for early Christmas celebration and "winter" at home, as some of us will be flying off to Sarawak attending wedding of a good friend.

I love December!
